Lakeville's Heid is Mr. Football finalist

The accolades continue to roll in for Lakeville North's Trey Heid.

The all-South Suburban Conference quarterback, who last week was named Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, is one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Football Award.

Since 2004, the award given by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association and the Minnesota Vikings annually honors the top graduating senior in football.

This season, Heid guided Lakeville North to a 10-1 record and a spot in the Class 5A state quarterfinals. He passed for 2,085 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding 518 yards and eight touchdowns rushing.

Heid also was the Panthers' primary kicker and punter.

Players from south metro teams have fared well in Mr. Football voting recently. Varmah Sonie (Apple Valley, 2008) and Zach Vraa (Rosemount, 2009) are among the previous winners.

Dupay shinesNorthfield's Bailey Dupay won the Class 1A state 1-meter diving competition last weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Dupay's finish, along with a third-place result by the Raiders' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Marla Thomforde, Emily Lundstrom, Allie Clark and Emily Anderson, helped Northfield finish second in the team race.

Sartell-St. Stephen won by 65 points, bolstered by a record time of 4 minutes, 49.68 seconds by junior Marissa Wood in the 500-yard freestyle. Wood also set a Class 1A record in the 200-yard freestyle.

In Class 2A, Prior Lake cracked the top 10 with a ninth place finish. The 200-yard medley relay team of Elizabeth Hartell, Taylor Dessler, Alexandra Yaeger and Monica Banasikowski finished third.

Adapted soccer teams fare wellThe Dakota United CI (consolation champions) and PI (third place) adapted soccer teams both won their final games at the state tournament. The South Suburban PI team also fared well, winning the consolation championship of that division.
