KABEKONA LAKE
Hubbard County
Size: 2,252 acres
What's there: A gorgeous lake that has benefited from the DNR's accelerated walleye stocking. The walleye population essentially crashed in the late 1990s, but has rebounded nicely due to regular fingerling stocking. "That has paid off," said Scott Mohm, DNR fisheries specialist. "It's coming on."
Anglers should find decent numbers of walleyes in the 16- to 18-inch range. The lake has excellent walleye habitat, with large wind-swept rubble areas and inlet and outlet stream areas.
There are not a lot of panfish in the lake, but there are low numbers of bluegill, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Because of its depth (133 feet at maximum) lake trout were stocked from 2000-2002, but reports of trout being caught were few.
Public access: There's public access on the west shore.
