CUT FOOT SIOUX LAKE

Itasca County

Size: 2,768 acres

What's there? A pretty, popular and productive fishing lake connected to famed Lake Winnibigoshish, Cut Foot Sioux offers walleyes, perch, northerns and panfish. Perch are abundant and a frequent target for anglers; a 2007 DNR survey showed 33 percent of the perch exceeded 8 inches. The walleye catch is typical for a lake like this, but don't look for big ones. Only 40 percent of the walleyes exceed 15 inches and only seven percent exceed 20 inches. Northerns are plentiful but small; few exceed 28 inches. The bluegill catch was the highest ever; 57 percent exceeded 6 inches and 23 percent exceeded 8 inches. Crappies also are plentiful, though most in the survey were less than 7 inches.

Access: Five public accesses scattered around the lake.
