Kubel and Thome both land on DL

That makes it eight players on the DL now for the Twins.

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- The Twins are placing both Jason Kubel (sprained left foot) and Jim Thome (strained left quad) on the DL. Ben Revere will fill one spot, and Luke Hughes will fill the other.

The Twins currently have eight players -- yes, eight -- on the DL: Kubel, Thome, Joe Mauer, Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan, Glen Perkins and Kevin Slowey.

Mauer caught three innings and went 0-for-5 in an extended spring training game today in Fort Myers, Fla. Here's an on-scene report.

The Twins are contemplating putting Mauer on the 60-day disabled list, which would free a spot on the 40-man roster. Manager Ron Gardenhire hinted that he'd like to add a lefthanded hitter to the bench after losing two lefties today (Kubel and Thome) to the DL.

Note: Revere is in the lineup. Hughes will be here Friday.
