The climate in western Texas and western Oklahoma can be pretty awful when itwants to be. In Midland, Texas, for instance, there hasn't been a drop of rainsince June 1, 22 days have been above 100 degrees and the highest temperaturewas 111.The extremely hot, dry weather through this part of the country can beattributed to the jet stream which has stayed pretty far north the past four orfive weeks. This has kept cool fronts away which spelled curtains for any rain.

Plus the drought situation meant the sun could really heat things up. As youmay already know, dry ground heats up more than moist ground because there islittle or no evaporation taking place which is a cooling process.

So Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the southern Plains will continue to roast withtemperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s. It could be even hotter, though.

Just check out the numbers below which are the highest temperatures everrecorded in July.
