A few days ago, I was spoiled rotten as the temperature here in State College,Pa., shot into the low 70s. Boy, did that feel good! But in the back of my mindI knew that the warm weather would not last. This is March and across thenorthern half of the United States the weather is often not very nice this timeof year. Now, cold weather is locked over the northern part of the country while heat isbuilding across the South. The atmosphere does not cope with large differenceslike this very well, and all too often we have to pay the price.
For the past couple of days, we have been reporting on a storm that has sincemoved off the East Coast. We'll put that one to rest now and focus on what'scoming next.
Did you notice in the weather business there is always "The Next One"? What'smore we meteorologists just can't wait to talk about it.
In this case, the next storm in the series will organize over the Centralstates on Saturday. In South Dakota and Nebraska, it will snow while rainbreaks out in eastern Kansas and Missouri. This storm will move quickly to theeast Saturday night and Sunday spreading a band of snow from central Illinoisto northern Virginia. The fast movement of the storm should prevent any majoraccumulations, but a few inches are possible.
The South will have to be alert for a passing thunderstorm or two this weekend, but a large outbreak of severe weather is not likely this time.
