A lot of wicked weather takes place in March. Intense collisions between airmasses during this month often produce colossal storms that create blizzardsand floods. Many of the worst storms on record have occurred in March. The list includesthe Great New England Blizzard of 1888 which produced 2-4 feet of snow withdrifts up to 30 feet, the northern Great Plains Blizzard of 1966 that buriedtrains, and more recently in 1993 there was the Storm of the Century whichproduced over 2 feet of snow from North Carolina to Maine.

Early next week, a major winter storm will affect the central Rocky Mountainregion and the Great Plains. Snowfall from Wyoming and northern Colorado acrossNebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota will exceed 6 inches. Denver will be closeto the thick of things and could wind up with a heavy accumulation. Certainlyto the north and northeast of Denver the weather will get pretty bad.

The strengthening low pressure system will also produce very windy conditionsthat will cause considerable blowing and drifting of snow. This raises thepossibility of blizzard conditions Tuesday across the Plains and UpperMidwest.
