Streetcars back in K.C.

More than half a century after they disappeared, streetcars have returned to Kansas City, Mo. The new route spans just 2.2 miles; the plan is to expand the network. The sleek, modern streetcars are free to ride and make stops about every two blocks. They travel from the historic River Market area along Main Street through downtown and the Crossroads Arts District before ending at Union Station and the Crown Center commercial complex. Riders may hit top attractions such as the Arabia Steamboat Museum and the year-round farmers market at City Market. The line also passes through one of the city's premier entertainment areas, the Power & Light District. One stop lets you off in front of the Alamo Drafthouse Mainstreet, a great spot for dinner and a movie. More info is available at kcstreetcar.org.

U.K., Europe airfares plunge

Airfares from the U.S. to Britain have dropped about 15 percent since the United Kingdom voted to pull out of the European Union last month. A study by Boston flight research site Hopper.com found that flights from the U.S. to Edinburgh, London and Manchester have dropped 7 to 18 percent in price since the Brexit vote. But flights to Paris, Madrid, Rome and Frankfurt, Germany, have also dropped 14 to 17 percent. One possible explanation is that airlines cut prices after noticing that demand softened after the terror attacks, the Greek debt crisis and the refugee emergency, among other events, said Patrick Surry, chief data scientist for Hopper. The Brexit vote may have been the last straw, he said.

Museum wants 'Go' to stop

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington is requesting that smartphone users refrain from "catching" Pokemon inside the museum. Museum communications director Andrew Hollinger said officials are trying to reach the developers of the popular new "Pokemon Go" game to get the museum removed as a prominent location. The museum is a PokeStop, where players can get free in-game items. Players can also stumble upon Pokemon while wandering the halls. Hollinger says playing the game seems disrespectful, especially inside the Hall of Remembrance.
