Kitchens that sizzle

From two-tiered islands to unique lighting to the latest gadgets - these are some of the trends on display at the Designer Kitchen and Bath Tour.

Kitchen makeovers are hot. "The No. 1 phone call I get is for designing a kitchen," said Brandi Hagen of Eminent Interior Design in Minneapolis. "People are staying in their homes rather than selling, and the first place they want to upgrade is the kitchen."

Next weekend, the ASID Designer Kitchen and Bath Tour will showcase the latest designs, finishes, colors and products in 13 projects around the Twin Cities. Here's a snapshot of four of the kitchens open for inspection.
