BEYOND THE NUMBER The race became a virtual tie on a day when a state board acted on ballot challenges made by Coleman. Most challenges were rejected or withdrawn, restoring a lot of votes to Franken. Earlier in the week, Coleman had made gains when the board acted on Franken challenges.
