By DJ Kayser, filling in for Douglas:

Yawn! These later sunrises are making me sleep in a little longer, which may or may not be a good thing. Things will change in a little over a week, though. Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, Nov. 2, when we all get to do our best Cher impression and “turn back time” by an hour. For the first few days after that, we’ll see our last pre-7 a.m. sunrises until late February. Sunset next Saturday will be at 6 p.m. on the nose, but the next day it’ll be at 4:59 p.m.

A few showers will be around this morning before we’re left with a sun/cloud mix for the rest of the weekend. We’re still watching rain chances next week — highest odds for the metro are Tuesday into early Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Melissa will rapidly strengthen in the Caribbean over the next few days, leading to a particularly dangerous situation for Jamaica and parts of Haiti. They will be battered this weekend into next week with a multiday onslaught of damaging winds, catastrophic flash flooding and landslides due to 12 inches-plus of rain, and storm surge.
