Katy Perry is in talks to become a judge on ABC's upcoming revival of "American Idol," according to a report from TMZ that also says the singer is "very interested" in taking a spot on the show.
Perry served as a guest judge during the reality competition's ninth season on Fox in 2010, as well as on the U.K. version of "The X Factor." She was later offered a permanent spot at the "Idol" judges' table in 2012, but declined the offer. The report comes following announcements this past week that "Idol" alums Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson had signed on to serve as coaches for Season 12 of NBC's singing competition, "The Voice."
Longtime "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest is said to being looked at to return to the revival. He was recently named the new permanent co-host for ABC's daytime show "Live! With Kelly and Ryan," making him a perfect fit to host the network's newest acquisition.
ABC declined to confirm or comment on the report, and Perry's reps didn't immediately respond to TheWrap's inquiry.
"American Idol" is being produced by FremantleMedia and Core Media Group. Trish Kinane, previously an executive producer for "Idol," will return as showrunner. The series will return to the airwaves in 2018.
