Kanabec County boy, 12, riding go-cart dies after car runs over him

August 12, 2011 at 12:23AM

A 12-year-old boy on a go-cart was run over and killed on the road in front of his home, Kanabec County authorities said Thursday.

Michael A. Geving was hit by a vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in South Fork Township, in east-central Minnesota, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Visibility at that spot on Bear Street was described as obstructed for both the boy and the driver, authorities said.

Emergency responders began efforts to revive the boy, who was then airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Geving died about three hours later, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

There was no evidence that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Sheriff's Office said.
