FORT WORTH, Texas — Indianapolis 500 champion Tony Kanaan is close to his bucking bulls this week.

Kanaan owns two bulls, Downforce and Brazilian Bully, and keeps them on a ranch in Stephenville, Texas, about 100 miles away from Texas Motor Speedway.

The 2-year-old bulls are being trained to possibly one day buck cowboys on the top-level Professional Bull Riders. They will go through four Back Seat Buckers Futurity events, beginning in August. At the October final in Las Vegas, the top bull can earn $100,000.

Kanaan describes his bulls as doing their qualifying laps.

They are among 48 bulls at the Ace of Spades Ranch. About 10 to 15 of them could be among elite bulls on the PBR circuit in the next three to four years.
