The Vikings have lost their first unrestricted free agent, but it shouldn't come as a surprise because they made no real effort to keep him.

Cornerback Josh Robinson, who started 21 games in his four years with the Vikings, signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers today.

Robinson was a third-round pick for the Vikings in 2012. He started six games as a rookie and 10 more in 2013. But at 5-foot-10, he did not fit what coach Mike Zimmer was looking for in an outside cover man. He started five games as the third cornerback in 2014 and was the No. 5 corner last season.

With Trae Waynes waiting in the wings and Terence Newman in talks to return for 2016, the Vikings were willing to let Robinson, a great athlete who might perform better in another scheme, leave in free agency.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
