Gene Wilder stars as the eccentric owner of a candy factory who takes a group of lucky children on a tour. Only one behaves, and receives a surprising reward, in the 1971 movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," based on the book by Roald Dahl.

We could all use some laughter right about now. Join the Taste team for an evening of one of our favorite (and sweetest) movies.

"Come with me, and you will be in a world of pure imagination." So sings Willy Wonka. Well, the Gene Wilder version, anyway.

Join us as we celebrate the 47th birthday of the Taste section with a screening of 1971's scrumpdiddlyumptious "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." Our eighth annual Taste Night at the Heights — which always sells out quickly — will be held Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Heights Theater, 3751 Central Av. NE., Columbia Heights.

Enjoy the shenanigans of Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Mike Teavee, the mysterious Oompa Loompas and, of course, hero Charlie Bucket. No Wonkavator rides, unfortunately, but there will be a preshow serenade on the theater's Mighty Wulitzer organ from maestro Ed Copeland.

Tickets are $8 (buy them at heightstheater.com) and include entry into the cookbook raffle. Join us!
