Motorists who used Johnson Street in northeast Minneapolis during the morning drive Monday already know that the southbound lanes on the bridge crossing I-35W are closed. For those who didn't, here's the news that the southbound lanes will be closed between 14th Avenue NE and Broadway Street through late June.

Then the work will shift to the northbound lanes from late June until late July. Motorists will be detoured around the closures via Broadway Street, Central Avenue and Lowry Avenue NE.

The bridge repair project is one of four MnDOT will undertake in northeast. Starting Tuesday, the westbound lanes of the Broadway Street bridge over I-35W will be closed until late June. Work on the eastbound lanes will follow. That, too, will run until late July.

On Hennepin Avenue, the eastbound lanes between 10th Avenue and Johnson Street will shut down on Wednesday through late June. Eastbound motorists will be detoured around the closure via northbound Central Avenue, eastbound Broadway Street and Johnson Street.

When the westbound side closes in late June through late July, drivers will be detoured around the closure via northbound Johnson St. and westbound Broadway Street to Central Avenue.

Drivers can expect off-peak lane closures on I-35W from 8th Street SE. to New Brighton Boulevard.

In addition, the Summer Street pedestrian bridge will be closed Wednesday through June 6. Bicyclists and pedestrians should use Broadway Street to cross I-35W.
