Minnesota athletes don't get too many invitations to appear on late-night TV, at least not since Kevin Garnett left town, so it was a real treat to see Joe Mauer charm the audience Tuesday night on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." Joltin' Joe outhomered Jimmy 1-0 as they played a fast version of "MLB: The Show," the game that Mauer was promoting.
One nit: While gushing over Mauer (Fallon gushes over just about every guest), he said he loved him because he had the option to leave the Twins, but stayed in his hometown. "That is cool you did that," Fallon said. "That makes you the anti-LeBron of baseball." I know Jimmy meant well, but he sort of compared Minneapolis to Cleveland. Ouch.
One other note from last night's show: Guest Jeff Probst hinted pretty hard that there's a celebrity "Survivor" in the works, one that would stretch over 7 days and allows participants to contact loved ones for an hour every day. Fallon wouldn't commit to the project. How many celebs would - and who do you think should sign up?
