Well played, Mauer.

Joe Mauer, the most popular Twin, is having twins.

A club source confirmed Wednesday that the recently married Mauer and his wife, Maddie, are expecting a double baby bundle.

Mauer was not available for comment Wednesday. He did not play in Wednesday's 12-5 victory over the Phillies but worked on his swing on a back field at the Lee County Sports Complex with hitting coach Tom Brunansky.

He's not the only Twin connected with twins. Infielder Jamey Carroll's twins, a boy and a girl, celebrated their fifth birthday Wednesday.

Mauer, 29, married the former Maddie Bisanz on Dec. 1 in St. Paul, an event that attracted more than 600 family and friends to a lavish reception in Minneapolis.

College tuition should not be a problem for Mauer, who will make $23 million a year through 2018.

It prompts the question: What will the children of one of Minnesota's greatest athletes be named? Are Minnie and Paul in the running?
