Oz, the Emergence

Opening Friday: "The Wizard of Oz" gets a bizarro update in the world of artist Jim Denomie, whose show at Bockley Gallery is focused around a single large-scale painting. In it, a pinkish-colored individual with a mane of unkempt brown hair marches down a checkered road, holding hands with a disoriented tin man who grasps a gun, and a scaredy-cat scarecrow. In the back room, viewers can peep works-on-paper from Denomie's recent residency at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans. (Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Fri. Ends June 10. Noon-5 p.m. Wed.-Sat. Bockley Gallery, 2123 W. 21st St., Mpls. bockleygallery.com)
