Jessie Diggins finished third in a World Cup freestyle sprint in Ulricehamn, Sweden, extending her lead in the women's overall cross-country standings.

Diggins, of Afton, recorded a top-three finish for the ninth time this season. She moved into third with 500 meters to go on a difficult, high-speed course. Sweden's Maja Dahlqvist and Johanna Hagstroem finished first and second, with Diggins 0.39 seconds behind Dahlqvist's winning time of 3 minutes, 20.59 seconds.

"The course here is so challenging and tactical," Diggins said. "You don't really get any rest out there, and it's super hard to find windows to pass. So this challenged me to ski differently than I normally might."

Diggins tops the women's World Cup overall standings with 1,234 points, 330 ahead of Russia's Yulia Stupak. She also leads the overall distance standings and ranks fourth among sprinters.
