Jerry Seinfeld is hooked on panels. Now that his very weird, increasing tiresome "The Marriage Ref" is off and running (sputtering?), he's agreed to participate in the first "celebrity panel" to kick off "Curb: The Discussion" starting June 2 on TV Guide Network.
"Curb" repeats will be shown on the cable outlet - but only in their entirety, upon the assistance of creator and star Larry David. With commercials, that means the HBO series will stretch well beyond the half-hour slot. To cover the entire hour, there will be about 20 minutes of a discussion after each episode, featuring fans and participants. For the kick off, Seinfeld will be joined by Jon Hamm and Taraji P. Henson.
All well and good. But I don't know if I need more celebrities playing couchside analysts. "Marriage Ref" shows just how limited that really can be. I'd be much more interested in hearing from people who actually participated in the episodes - like Larry David himself!
Instead, the list of upcoming panelists - Seth Green, Rob Zombie, Joe Scarborough, Dave Navarro - seems more interested in weird bedfellows than actual tidbits on how great TV is made.
