Running back Jerick McKinnon had an apparent setback with his injured foot, one that caused him to be held out of Thursday's practice.

McKinnon was limited Wednesday and the next day watched teammates from the sideline. So Matt Asiata filled in behind Adrian Peterson in the Vikings' running back pecking order. Hopes are high for McKinnon, the third-year running back, as he's expected to take on a larger role in the offense this season.

McKinnon, tight end MyCole Pruitt (knee) and center Nick Easton (ankle) were the only Vikings players unable to practice due to injuries.

Still limited were cornerback Xavier Rhodes (hamstring), tight end Rhett Ellison (knee) and receiver Charles Johnson (quadriceps). Johnson said Wednesday he doesn't know why there'd be any doubt of his availability for Sunday's regular season opener in Tennessee.

Left tackle Matt Kalil (hip) and safety Anthony Harris (shoulder) were designated as full participants again.
