Bloomington Jefferson 17, Robbinsdale cooper 14
Down two touchdowns against Robbinsdale Cooper after three quarters, Bloomington Jefferson roared back to tie the score at Bloomington Stadium in regulation before junior Ryan Murray kicked a 27-yard field goal in OT to complete the comeback. The win moved the Jaguars (5-1) into first place in the Metro West Conference.
The third quarter ended with Cooper ahead 14-0 while Jefferson had just one third-down conversion. Then the Jaguars offense got on track. Senior quarterback Zachary Ubben hit senior Ted Kalina for a 21-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play to cut Cooper's lead to seven, 14-7. Senior running back Colton Myles tied the score on a 15-yard touchdown run.
Cooper got the ball first in overtime but failed to score on four tries from the Jefferson 10-yard line. Murray slipped and fell on the follow-through of his game-winning kick, but even from his bottom he knew the kick would put his team on top.
Key of the game: Jefferson doesn't drive for the tying score without senior Patrick Gruggen running a fake punt 18 yards to the Cooper 20-yard line.
Quote: "I thought, 'It's just another kick so keep your head in the right place, stay calm and do what you always do.' " — Jefferson kicker Ryan Murray on his game-winning 27-yard field goal
One thing to know: Both Cooper (4-2) touchdowns came on fourth-down conversions. Junior quarterback Phillip Howard threw for both Hawks scores.
