Choose your own adventure

Lovers of guitar, clear your calendar. For starters, you have a choice of fine gigs on Thursday. Guitarist Zacc Harris is one of the more redoubtable figures on the local jazz scene and he's fronting a fine trio at Reverie. Across the river in St. Paul, the Khyber has the electronic flights of guitarist John Zuma Saint-Pelvyn and the acoustic conjuring of Jeff Lenoch in back-to-back solo sets. (9 p.m. Thu., Reverie, Mpls.; free, 9 p.m., Thu. Khyber Pass, St. Paul; $5,

The Cat who brings Thunder

Minneapolis has the good fortune of hosting Thundercat on the very day that his third record, "Drunk," is released. Having collaborated with cutting-edge colleagues such as Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington, it's about time the funky jazz and electronics-oriented bassist and singer claimed center stage. He plans to devote more than half of the show to new material as well as covers from Flying Lotus ("Mmm Hmm") and his mentor, the late George Duke ("For Love I Came"). (8 p.m. Fri., Fine Line, Mpls; sold out,

Handcrafted music

In this phenomenal week of guitarists, the treasure trove includes the boundary-defying duo of Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge, who pick, strum and listen closely to each other as they interplay on their flat-top Martins. Lage is probably the hottest young acoustic guitarist in jazz. Eldridge, of the Punch Brothers, is bluegrass royalty. And they have a brand-new record, "Mount Royal," to showcase. (8:30 p.m., Sat., Hopkins Center for the Arts; Hopkins; $12-$27,

Where Dolly Parton meets John Coltrane

Guitarist John Scofield brings a silvery, jazz-blues filigree to all the music he plays, so his current tour behind last year's nod to classic country — "Country for Old Men" — is ever-ripe for creative interpretations. On the new record, for example, "Red River Valley" is a saucy jaunt, "Wayfaring Stranger" is thick in the blues and Dolly Parton's "Jolene" is invaded by the Holy Ghost of John Coltrane. (7 and 9 p.m., Sat., Dakota, Mpls.; $25-$45,
