Itasca State Park is now fully open to visitors after Monday's storm.

The famed park suffered significant damage from high winds during the storm. Wilderness Drive and Main Park Drive have now reopened. Additional cleanup is underway to clear small debris on the Itasca bike trail in the park, officials reported.

"We're pleased to say that we are ready for full use," said Bob Chance, Itasca State Park manager. "Cleanup efforts went extremely well."

High winds at the park and nearby La Salle Lake State Recreation Area toppled trees and blocked roads. Officials said Thursday that they have yet to assess how many trees were toppled in the park. DNR crews worked Tuesday and Wednesday to assess the damage and remove debris and trees from roads, campgrounds and trails. Efforts to clear and assess the impact of the storms on other area state trails and forests are underway.

No injuries have been reported, but park visitors are advised to use caution.

The La Salle Lake Recreation Area remains closed while crews assess damage. No opening date has been set. For park and trail updates, go to www.mndnr.gov or call the DNR Information Center, 651-296-6157 (1-888-646-6367 toll-free) between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
