It was a two-owl day

One in a tree, the other on an arm

Other birders kindly shared an owl with me Monday morning at a nearby nature center. The bird is a juvenile Great Horned Owl. It paid minor attention to observers, then went back to sleep. It has left its nest, now spending days patiently waiting for its parents to feed it. The second owl was on the arm of one of the observers, a young woman named Lisa. She had a favorite owl in her neighborhood that was killed by a Red-tailed Hawk. This tattoo honors that bird, she told me.
