A man turned himself in to the Isanti County Sheriff's Office on Friday evening in connection with a hit and run incident that killed an Isanti teen who was skateboarding down a road.

The driver is fully cooperating with police and the vehicle has been located, authorities said.
Antonio R. Demeules, 15, was found lying in the middle of 285th Avenue NE., just east of Hwy. 65, at about 8:15 p.m.
A motorist saw the boy skateboarding on the centerline of the road in dark clothing, then drove back through the area a short time later and, with another passerby, found the boy severely injured.

Demeules was taken to Cambridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

There were no witnesses at the scene when authorities arrived, and no vehicles with damage, according to the Sheriff's Office. Video from a nearby business, however, showed a white pickup truck traveling west on 285th Avenue.

"It is believed that the suspect vehicle may not have known they hit a child due to the small stature of the child, that he was in the middle of the road wearing dark clothing and it was almost dark out," the Sheriff's Office said. "Investigators believe this is a terrible accident and not done with malicious intent."

Authorities said more information is expected to be released on Monday.

A memorial account has been set up for Demeules at any Wells Fargo to help with funeral expenses. A GoFundMe page was also established in his name.
