IRS will show the love to all tax returns starting Valentine's Day

The late-passing tax bill will delay some tax returns from being processed. The IRS announced Thursday that they'll be ready for all tax returns by Feb. 14.

The IRS plans to show those of us who itemize our taxes the love beginning Feb. 14. That's when the agency says it will be ready to process tax returns delayed due to the late tax law changes.

You don't have to wait to prepare your taxes until then - most software programs have already implemented the changes.

So which taxpayers are affected by the delay? Taxpayers who claim:

  • itemized deductions on Schedule A
    • the higher education tuition and fees deduction on Form 8917
      • the educator expenses deduction.

The IRS estimates that about nine million tax returns will be affected. As always, the IRS says e-file is the fastest and most accurate way to file.
