Irondale scores perfect start in softball

Irondale's softball team jumped out to a 4-0 record thanks to some serious run production,

The Knights scored a combined 58 runs in four victories against North Suburban Conference foes St. Louis Park, Chisago Lakes, Benilde-St. Margaret's and Columbia Heights.

Bigger tests await later in April as Irondale takes part in the Polar Classic against teams like No. 2 North St. Paul, No. 3 Bloomington Jefferson and No. 8 Centennial.

Strong performances• The Bruns sisters, Moriah and Michaela, led Elk River's softball team to a 10-7 victory against Blaine. Moriah, a senior pitcher, got roughed up for 18 hits, two home runs and five earned runs but hit a solo home run and scored twice. Michaela, a freshman third baseman, smacked a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

• Sophomore pitcher Logan Shore led Coon Rapids to an 8-0 victory against Anoka, striking out 15 batters in six innings.

• Rachel Gray, a junior golfer at Legacy Christian Academy in Andover, earned medalist honors in a match against Andover by shooting a 37.

• Max Murphy belted two home runs as Robbinsdale Cooper's baseball team routed Benilde-St. Margaret's 11-1.

Mound View athletes signingThree Mustangs signed with their respective colleges this week: Christian Nygaard (South Dakota men's swimming), Natalie Stoltz (Minnesota State Mankato women's hockey) and Alex Stych (Air Force women's gymnastics).
