Margaret Anderson Kelliher appears to be considering Iron Range state Rep. Tom Anzelc for lieutenant governor.

Anzelc said Saturday that he's been in talks with Kelliher, a top candidate seeking the party endorsement Saturday in Duluth.

"We've had a couple conversations," Anzelc said. "We discussed labor, education, geography and balance."

He wouldn't elaborate on the talks or their duration.

"I am sure she's having conversations with several people," he said.

Anzelc said he's a firm backer of fellow Iron Range lawmaker Tom Rukavina, who is not considered a leading candidate.

"I am going to vote for Tommy until the end," he said.

What happens if Kelliher beats Rukavina for the endorsement? "I am sure the conversations (with Kelliher) will continue."

Anzelc could give Kelliher a jolt of support on the Iron Range, where DFLers are active and reliable voters. So far there are no signs she intends to name a running mate during the convention.
