A KSTP-TV intern allegedly broke a glass door as she charged at an exec producer who had to run for her life.
St. Paul police were called to KSTP-TV about 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 13 to deal with "an intern [who] was out of control. It was determined that intern had been disruptive, threatening and damaged property," states the "public narrative" of a police report.
No charges have been filed against the intern, whom I reached by phone on Sunday to ask about the run-in with executive producer Danielle Prenevost.
When asked whether it was true that she had chased a manager around the newsroom, the intern said, "No comment." You didn't chase Danielle, I persisted? "No comment," said the intern. "I'll talk to you later."
Then I called KSTP-TV to ask Prenevost about the altercation. "That's not something I'm going to talk about, thank you," Prenevost said. Did you call the police? "I'm going to hang up now, thank you, C.J., good-bye."
St. Paul Police Department spokesman Pete Panos has seen the full police report: "Female intern they had had some disciplinary problems with; she was having problems that morning. They decided to terminate her at that point. When they did, she went off on the person who terminated her. Tried to attack Danielle. Somebody got in between them. Later on in the morning, this girl came at her again. Danielle ran into an office, and the girl busted the [glass] out. Security and a couple of employees had to escort the girl out and wait with her until her mom came and picked her up."
Sounds like a beauty of a scene.
The intern "is no longer with us," KSTP's news director Lindsay Radford told me Wednesday. I told Radford that while nothing justifies an intern breaking a window, I wondered if the ND was aware of the EP's management style. Radford said, "We're not going to comment."
