What: A bespoke bridal dress shop with handmade and eco-conscious gowns. Megan Ziems, founder and creative director of Grace Loves Lace, takes pride in "designing for the woman, not the bride," and focuses equally on wearability and style. "Women today don't need a corset to feel beautiful or confident," she says. "We layer and mix fabrics and trims in unique combinations and silhouettes that are comfortable and allow you to move."

The atmosphere: Playing off the North Loop's postindustrial vibes, the Minneapolis showroom takes advantage of high ceilings and natural light. One-on-one service emphasizes comfort and authenticity. "It's always been about making every bride's appointment a destination experience and a day to remember," Ziems says.

A little empathy: "We created the appointment experience by asking ourselves what we would want if we were the bride," Ziems says. "We'd want to take photos, try on multiple gowns, sip bubbles and not pay for an appointment. So that's what we offer."

What you'll find: All dresses are designed by Ziems and produced by hand in her Australian studio from sustainably sourced fabrics. Prices range from $1,500 to $3,800.

What you won't find: Ready-to-wear dresses, tuxedos, wedding planning.

Where: The showroom, one of 20 worldwide, is at 224 Washington Av. N. Call 612-354-3430, e-mail minneapolis@graceloveslace.com or go to graceloveslace.com.
