JAKARTA, Indonesia — An Indonesian court has sentenced an Islamic militant to 10 years in jail on charges of possessing explosive materials intended for a terror attack.
The West Jakarta District Court ruled Thursday that Badri Hartono violated the country's anti-terror law. Hartono was accused of recruiting and sending militants to Poso in Central Sulawesi where Muslim-Christian conflicts killed at least 1,000 people from 1998 to 2002.
He was arrested last September following an explosion at a house near Jakarta. One militant was critically injured in the explosion of what was said to be a bomb prepared for a terrorist attack.
Hartono accepted the sentence, which was four years less than prosecutors had requested.
