A 50-year-old Plymouth woman tested at more than four times the legal blood alcohol limit after she crashed her vehicle into a downtown Hopkins brick apartment building on Thursday, police said.

Sgt. Mike Glassberg of the Hopkins Police Department said the woman crashed her Jeep Liberty into an apartment building in the 400 block of 5th Avenue N. just before 10 a.m.

She refused evidentiary breath testing, but a preliminary screening test — which is not admissible in court — showed a blood alcohol level of more than .34, Glassberg said. The legal limit is .08.

The driver, whose name has not been released, "was obviously impaired," Glassberg said. She was booked into the Hennepin County jail and charged with second-degree drunken driving, a gross misdemeanor.

"We get impaired drivers at all hours of the day," Glassberg said. "I was glad to hear that nobody got hurt and that the driver didn't get hurt."

There was no visible damage to the building, he said.
