Impaired driver killed in crash near Stewartville; 3 others injured

A driver who had been drinking crossed into the wrong lane and was killed in a head-on collision in southeastern Minnesota, authorities said Monday.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 63 south of Stewartville, the State Patrol said.

Killed was David E. Rettmann, 61, of Gibbon, Minn. The patrol said alcohol use by Rettmann was detected at the scene.

The other driver, Matt Isaacs, 29, of Rochester, Minn., was critically hurt and admitted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, according to the patrol. Isaacs' wife, Rebecca L. Isaacs, 29, and passenger Marquetta C. Palmer, 17, suffered noncritical injuries and also were taken to St. Marys.

Rettmann was heading south on Hwy. 63, crossed into the northbound lane and collided with Isaacs' car, the patrol said.
