Coming up on the 10th anniversary of his breakthrough album, the Twin Cities' favorite Libertyville, Ill., rocker Ike Reilly will perform "Salesmen & Racists" in its entirety July 29 at First Avenue and July 30 at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. The record earned Reilly a (short-lived) contract with Universal Records and turned him into a rock star locally, thanks in large part to the famous four-night build-up with his band/running-buddies the Ike Reilly Assassination at the Turf Club prior to the album's release. Reilly even got a rare smattering of pre-Current 89.3 airplay on Cities 97 and later Drive 105 with songs such as "Put a Little Love in It" and "Hail! Hail." Numerous other tracks from the record remain live staples -- the kind where everybody rowdily sings along -- including the wry opening cut "Last Time," "Angels & Whores," "Commie Drives a Nova," "Hip-Hop Thighs #17" and "Duty Free," the latter of which was later re-cut by Cracker. Tickets to the July 29 show are on sale now.
