IF YOU GO
GETTING THERE
About 18 miles north of mainland Honduras, Sandy Cay is among Utila's collection of cays, accessible via a 20-minute boat ride from Utila's municipal dock, with arrangements via Sandy Cay proprietor George Jackson. Utila has a small landing strip, but the recommended route is via the Utila Princess ferry, which offers twice-daily service from the mainland port of La Ceiba for about $21. Honduras' major airports are Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa (TGU) and the less expensive Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport in San Pedro Sula (SAP). Both are served by major airlines via Atlanta, Houston and Miami; affordable luxury-bus service is available to and from La Ceiba.
CHECKING IN
Sandy Cay's house sleeps four adults via one king-size bed and two singles. There are eight additional mattresses in the living room, allowing a party as large as 12. The house features a kitchen stocked with appliances, without pantry staples. Groceries can be purchased on Utila or nearby Pigeon Cay.

One night's stay for as many as six people is $100, with a two-night minimum; each additional person costs $10 per night. Nearby Little Cay sleeps as many as six people for $115 per night (two-night minimum). Booking arrangements for both are handled by George Jackson.
