The Hennepin County medical examiner's office on Sunday identified a man who was shot to death Thursday morning in south Minneapolis.

Mario McGee, 27, of St. Paul, died from a gunshot to the back about 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of E. 24th Street and Oakland Avenue S.

Minneapolis police went to the scene and found McGee dead.

Investigators have talked to residents in the area and are encouraging anyone with information to call the Police Department's tip line at 612-692-8477 (612-692-TIPS) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips also can be texted to 847411 (tip411); enter MPD, a space and then any information.

Police spokesman John Elder said Monday that investigators are making "great strides" at finding a suspect in McGee's homicide.

Meanwhile, no arrests had been made in the Sunday homicide of Andre A. Riley Jr., 24, of Minneapolis, Elder said. Riley was shot and killed in a parking lot at Emerson Avenue N. and W. Broadway shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. Two other people were wounded but are expected to survive.
