'Idol' final four: Duets better than solos

Does this mean it's another forgettable winner for 2010?

Last night's American Idol" was yet another example of a missed opportunity: All four contestants chose songs that did nothing to advance their standings. Judges, just pick the songs for them at this point. I don't want to hear their lame excuses for why they chose a boring song: "It spoke to me." Yawn.

And Jamie Foxx as a mentor was surprisingly low-key, even with the Contestant vs. Artist t-shirt motivating tactic. Did he help them? Not really.

(The top four: Casey James, Michael Lynche, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox.)

My colleague and former "Idol" blogger, Randy Salas, likens this season to the Catherine McPhee/Taylor Hicks season: the winner will be the last one standing.

Last year's show had drama building to the finale with top 3 Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and eventual winner Kris Allen - all engaging, talented singers.

On a positive note, the duets last night were great. Maybe some of these guys should pair up.

On tap tonight: Daughtry and Bon Jovi. My prediction for the one who will get cut: Big Mike or Casey. What's your prediction?

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
