Her manager Brian Dickens told People.com Tuesday of the singer's hospitalization in North Carolina: "Her injuries are not life threatening. ... Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon." A police report characterizes it as a suicide attempt.

Her troubles come apparently came after a divorce court filing alleging that Barrino had an affair with a married man, Antwaun Cook. Dickens confirmed to People that the singer "was totally overwhelmed with the lawsuit and the media attention." He said she is "a fighter and a survivor" and expects her to emerge stronger from the ordeal. (www.people.com/people/article/0,,20409338,00.html)

Indeed, the overdose adds another chapter to a turbulent life of extreme highs and lows. Fantasia, a high-school dropout and teen mother, reached the improbable pinnacle of reality TV stardom as a 20-year-old winner of "Idol." Lately, her career hasn't quite lived up to the promise of her "Idol" reign.
