Authorities on Monday identified the motorist who was killed in a head-on crash in Stillwater Township.

Michael Day, 31, of Cottage Grove, died Friday night soon after the collision along Manning Avenue N. about 4 miles north of Hwy. 36, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The other driver, Joan Hansen, 29, of Lindstrom, Minn., was being treated for her injuries at Regions Hospital and was in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Dan Starry said his office has determined which driver was in the wrong lane, but he's waiting to release that information until the State Patrol crash reconstruction team to verifies that conclusion.

Starry added that while there is no initial indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, his office is looking into whether the driver who was on the wrong side of the road was distracted by a cellphone or something else.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
