Authorities have identified the man who was struck by a light rail train not far from his home and killed over the weekend in south Minneapolis.

Michael F. Kwosek, 62, lived a little more than a quarter-mile west of the spot where the Blue Line train hit him about 6 p.m. Sunday as he tried to cross the tracks at Hiawatha Avenue and E. 42nd Street, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said late Tuesday.

Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland said the gate arms were down, an alarm was sounding and lights were flashing at the intersection when the incident happened.

The passengers were removed from the train and put on a bus to continue their journeys.
