Authorities have identified the two people who died in a head-on crash south of Hastings, one of them the driver who strayed across the centerline.

Killed midafternoon Thursday in the collision on Ravenna Trail was Timothy Gusk, 57, of St. Paul, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Saturday. Also killed was Lihua Jing, 56, of Savage, the medical examiner said.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office:

Gusk was heading north on Ravenna Trail near 185th Street, when his car crossed into the opposite lane and struck an SUV with Jing as a passenger.

The SUV's driver was critically injured, and a back-seat passenger in the same vehicle was seriously hurt. Both were taken to Regions Hospital. Their identities have yet to be released.

Authorities have yet to reveal why Gusk's car crossed the centerline.
