It's the second week of below-freezing temperatures in the state, with icy roads present in five separate traffic accidents and six fatalities in the metro and surrounding areas this weekend.
A Sunday crash on Interstate 94 near Rogers, on the northwestern edge of the Twin Cities metro, killed one person, whose vehicle was pushed into parked construction equipment, authorities said.
The three-car wreck occurred about 9:15 a.m. on eastbound I-94, according to the State Patrol.
Megan Hinchliff, 24, of St. Michael, who was driving a Pontiac G6, was killed, the patrol said.
The other drivers, Larissa Bohler, 17, of St. Michael, and Craig Heckman, 42, of Clearwater, Minn., were not hurt, the patrol said.
A substantial backup on the interstate near Rogers lasted through the morning.
According to the patrol, Bohler spun out in her Toyota, prompting Heckman's Buick to strike the Pontiac G6. The Pontiac then left the road and "struck a stationary piece of construction equipment on the right side of the road," a patrol statement read.
The patrol described the interstate as icy at the time of the crash, but has yet to say that it contributed to Bohler losing control of her car.
