Ice Woes Christmas from Virginia to New York

December 23, 2009 at 8:25PM

The stage is set for ice along the eastern flank of the Appalachians fromVirginia to upstate New York. Low-level cold air will not get out of the waybefore moisture invades from the southwest. The result will be sleet andfreezing rain with the worst conditions from central Virginia northward. Anyice that might happen along the I-95 corridor will not last very long. The buildup of ice will bring down some power lines, but this will probably notturn into a destructive ice event with widespread and prolonged power outages.

On the other hand, roads and walkways will become quite slippery before theyare treated... Careful delivering those packages.
