A short portion of Interstate 35W in Bloomington will close late Thursday night to allow Centerpoint Energy crews to repair a damaged gas line that runs under the 86th Street bridge.

The freeway will be closed in both directions from 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday between 82nd Street and 90th Street. Ramps leading to the freeway will close at 10:45 p.m., the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.

The gas line was damaged Feb. 20 when a southbound truck hauling construction equipment hit the bridge over the freeway and ruptured the line.

During the closure, here is how motorists will get around:

Southbound drivers will be detoured via west on 82nd Street, south on Penn Avenue and east on 90th Street.

Northbound traffic will be detoured east on 90th Street, north on Lyndale Avenue and west on 82nd Street.
