A motorist in the south metro who collided with a pickup truck that rolled across an interstate median has died, authorities said.

Daniel H. Otis, 59, of Faribault, spent two weeks in the hospital after the three-vehicle crash late in the afternoon on New Year's Eve along Interstate 35 near County Road 70 in Lakeville. Otis died late Monday at HCMC, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office announced Wednesday.

According to the State Patrol:

Hannah M. Costa, 18, of Northfield, lost control of her pickup on northbound I-35. The vehicle rolled over the cable barriers in the median and struck two SUVs heading south.

Otis was in one of the SUVs. Samuel C. Porter, 28, of Farmington, was driving the other SUV and survived his injuries, as did Costa.

The interstate was snowy and icy at the time of the crash.
