MADISON, Wis. — A Republican leading the effort to overhaul the state board that oversees elections in Wisconsin says he is looking at creating a hybrid entity with both partisan and nonpartisan appointees.

Rep. Dean Knudson (kuh-NUDE-son) said Thursday that he hopes to introduce his proposal soon and have the Legislature take it up in February.

Republicans have been critical of work done by the Government Accountability Board recently. The Legislature's Audit Committee plans to hold a hearing Wednesday on a recent audit of the board.

Knudson says he's been exploring "pros and cons" of having a completely partisan board or something in between.

Knudson says whatever he proposes will strengthen and improve the agency to make it more accountable to the public and Legislature.
