Hy-Vee plans to open a super convenience store in Eden Prairie, an apparent first in the market for the Iowa grocer that is rapidly expanding in the Twin Cities.

A proposal to construct a nearly 8,000-square-foot store with gas pumps and a drive-through coffee shop was on the agenda of the Eden Prairie Planning Commission, which meets Monday.

Tara Deering-Hansen, a Hy-Vee spokeswoman, confirmed that the proposed store in Eden Prairie would include a coffee shop and grocery as well as other typical convenience items. The potential location of the store is 4 acres of vacant land on the northwest corner of Pioneer Trail and Hennepin Town Road, near Hwy. 169.

According to Hennepin County property records, the land is owned by Earl Street Partners LLC, an affiliate of Maplewood Development and Construction. It appears to own two other nearby sites, one a little more than an acre and another a little bit more than 3 acres.

A representative at Maplewood Development declined to comment Friday.

Hy-Vee is opening a full-service grocery store in Eagan on Tuesday. It has also recently opened locations in Lakeville and Brooklyn Park with additional locations on the way.
